Advocacy & Mobilizing

Through collective action, we are shaping a space where everyone's needs are fully met and no one lives in fear, in a way that reflects the teachings of Jesus.

Our Approach

Sojourners’ approach to public advocacy draws from the biblical roles of prophet and pastor. Our faith-rooted process emphasizes the power and potential for personal conversion and societal transformation. We combine grassroots citizen activism, organized church mobilization, and leadership development to change individual hearts, public opinion, and the direction of policymakers.

We advocate for fair federal policies around civil and human rights, racial justice, climate change and environmental resilience, just economics, immigration, gender equity, peace and nonviolence, families and children, democracy, religious freedom, voting rights, and global poverty.

In practical terms, we invite you to make your opinions heard at strategic times through emails, letters, or calls to elected officials. You may also see Sojourners applying public pressure for change through demonstrations or speaking at press conferences. We also build relationships with legislators in Washington, D.C. and around the country for productive action on critical issues. Through our partnerships with national and local organizations, we are able to adapt to the specific social justice needs in communities around the country.
