There was tension among two groups of activists after Just Leadership — with which the faith leaders were aligned — was briefly prevented from entering City Hall grounds Thursday morning after two members of “No New Jails” were arrested for chaining themselves to the entry gates. Just Leadership placed former Rikers’s residents and those directly impacted by their prison experiences front and center at their rally. Over and over, the group’s leaders urged protesters to let those who had suffered most be heard.
