- Peace Brigades International is an organization committed to practicing nonviolence in conflict areas. Volunteers respond to requests for protective accompaniment from individuals and groups threatened with political violence. - Seattle will be the site of "Birthing Small Communities of Hope" on December 2. This gathering will provide practical reflection, discussion, and networking on issues facing small Christian communities in U.S. culture. TRAVEL/WITNESS OPPORTUNITIES
- Immerse yourself in the culture of Guatemala, studying Spanish, living with a Guatemalan family, learning about justice issues, and doing voluntary service. MISCELLANEOUS
- Get your church community involved in the "Souper Bowl." On Super Bowl Sunday, January 28, churches nationwide will collect money in soup bowls and send their collection to a local soup kitchen or food bank of their choosing. Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in South Carolina started the program in 1990. Last year, more than 2,400 churches across 30 denominations in 49 states participated and raised $420,000. - Collateral Damage: A Reality of War is the name of a sculpture commissioned by the Veterans and Friends of Collateral Damage and dedicated August 5 in downtown Santa Cruz, Calif.
