Go and find Jesus when your patience and strength give out and you feel alone and helpless. He is waiting for you. Say to him, 'Jesus, you know exactly what is going on. You are all I have, and you know all. Come to my help.' And then go and don't worry about how you are going to manage. That you have told God about it is enough. He has a good memory.

Voice of the Day: A Community Development Proverb
Go to the people. Live among them. Learn from them. Love them. Start with what they know. Build on what they have. But of the best leaders, when their task is accomplished, when their work is done ... the people will remark: 'We have done it ourselves.'

Prayer of the Day: 'No One is Beyond Redemption'
Dear Lord, remind us that no one is above reproach, and no one is beyond redemption. Help us to look into the eyes of -people we find hard to like, and see your image. Assure us this day that your mercy triumphs over judgment. Amen.

Afghanistan's Children of War
The United Nations issued a report on Wednesday stating that the number of civilians killed or wounded in Afghanistan rose by 23 percent in the first six months of 2013, with women and children faring the worst — killed by roadside bombs almost every day. An earlier UN report noted that
"Afghanistan remains one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child."
Over a third of Afghans are living in abject poverty, violence is escalating as NATO forces withdraw, and years of international aid has done little to decrease the abuse of women and children.

Voice of the Day: Parker Palmer
The power of a fully lived life or a truly learned mind is not a power to be sought or contrived. It comes only as we let go of what we possess and find ourselves possessed by a truth greater than oru own.

Prayer of the Day: 8/2/13
God our provider, all good gifts come from you. Make us so thankful for your gifts that we cannot help but share them with others. Own us as your fools as we abandon the stuff of this world for the treasures of your kingdom. Amen.
Prayer of the Day: 8/1/13
May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be always acceptable to you, o Lord, my strength and my redeemer.
- Psalm 19:14
Verse of the Day: 'May You Be Made Strong'
May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from [God’s] glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to [God], who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.

Voice of the Day: Augustine
In affliction, then, we do not know what it is right to pray for. Because affliction is difficult, troublesome, and against the grain for us, weak as we are, we do what every human would do. We pray that it may be taken away from us. However, if he does not take it away, we must not imagine that he has forgotten us. In this way, power shines forth more perfectly in weakness.

Voice of the Day: Frederick Buechner
The grace of God means something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are because the party wouldn't have been complete without you. Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don't be afraid. I am with you. Nothing can ever separate us. It's for you I created the universe. I love you. There's only one catch. Like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you'll reach out and take it. Maybe being able to reach out and take it is a gift too.

Prayer of the Day: 7/31/13
Jesus, it is enough to tell others of your works of mercy, of your resurrection, of your imminent return. It is enough to praise you in the sanctuary, to kneel before you, to wait in silence for you. Lord, it is enough to be named as one of your children, to be bound in eternal love and freedom to give up our lives for you. Amen.
- Common Prayer
Verse of the Day: Without Love
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

"We live in our different worlds. That's not what we're supposed to do as the body of Christ."
Verse of the Day: 'Rich in Faith'
Voice of the Day: The Letter to Diognetus
Christians live in their own countries, but only as guests and aliens. They take part in everything as citizens and endure everything as aliens. ... They are as poor as begars, and yet they make many rich. They lack everything, and yet they have everything in abundance. They are dishonored, and yet have their glory in this very dishonor. ... They are abused, yet they bless. ... In a word: what the soul is in the body, the Christians are in the world.
