On Nov. 14, in a press conference at the White House, President Obama spoke about the possibility that President-elect Donald Trump may get rid of his executive action "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals" (DACA). DACA enables undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. before their sixteenth birthday, before June 15, 2007, to remain in the country without fear of deportation and receive a two-year work permit that can be renewed.

“I will urge the president-elect and the incoming administration to think long and hard before they are endangering the status of what, for all practical purposes, are American kids,” said President Obama.

The president continued:

“These are kids who were brought here by their parents. They’ve done nothing wrong … They’ve gone to school. They’ve pledged allegiance to the flag. Some of them have joined the military … It is my strong belief that the majority of the American people would not want to see suddenly those kids to have to start hiding again. That’s something that I will encourage the president-elect to look at.”

President Obama’s words come after President-elect Trump’s first post-election interview with 60 Minutes aired on Nov. 13. In the interview President-elect Trump announced his plan to deport 2 to 3 million undocumented immigrants.
