Goodbye Andrew Jackson, and hello Harriet Tubman!
Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew is expected to announce April 20 that Tubman, the iconic abolitionist and woman’s suffragist will replace Jackson on the $20 bill, reports Politico.
Harriet Tubman won the online vote in the Women on 20s campaign, a grassroots organization that last year petitioned President Obama to direct Lew to make the change before 2020, the 100th anniversary of [some] women gaining the right to vote in the U.S.
News had already leaked that Lew was planning to put a woman on the $20 bill and keep Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill.
According to Politico, “Lew will also announce changes to the $5 bill to depict civil rights era leaders.”
