In September, a group of more than 100 immigrant women from across the country walked 100 miles from York, Pa., to Washington, D.C., to call for immigration reform and to lift up the pope’s message of justice for migrants during his visit to the nation’s capital.
Their march, supported by a joint campaign between the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, was filled with cheering supporters and stops in multiple towns along the route, where the marchers told their personal stories about the ways that America’s broken immigration system has affected them and their families.
Though they finished their trek to D.C., they’re not done marching and have kicked off the next phase of their campaign:
“In cities and towns across the country, women will walk for 1 mile on the 11th of each month for 11 months. Together we’ll walk another 100 miles for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.”
