A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Sandel, Harvard Professor and author of the new book Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do? In this book he tackles some of the most pressing ethical issues of our day and at the same time teaches how we can engage these issues with a productive moral dialogue, even with those with whom we disagree. I am always impressed with Michael's ability to understand and explain many different approaches to difficult moral questions, and with Socratic wisdom bring his students and his readers through them. Every year his class on justice attracts more than 1,000 students. If it is ever appropriate to classify a professor as a "rock star," Michael Sandel just might be the Bono of the lecture hall.
