Fresh off winning five Grammy awards for his album To Pimp a Butterfly, rapper Kendrick Lamar just released eight new tracks on March 4, under the project name untitled unmastered.
These new tracks continue Kendrick's tradition of talking faith and politics, including his relationship with God. For example, a lyric from "untitled 05" reads: "Why you want to see a good man with a broken heart?/Once upon a time I used to go to church and talk to God/Now I'm thinking to myself hollow tips is all I got."
His performance on The Colbert Report in 2014 is now released as "untitled 03," while his recent performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is now "untitled 08."
Twitter is thanking Lebron James, who tweeted at Kendrick and his label's CEO to release a few tracks after Kendrick's knockout Grammy performance. Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony Tiffith also alluded to Lebron in his instagram post announcing the release, saying "Thank @kingjames for this."
If you're unfamiliar with Kendrick Lamar, check out his recent performance at this year's Grammys for a snapshot of the rapper's commentary on the black experience in America. Black Lives Matter protesters across the country have taken to singing the line "we gon' be alright" from his song "Alright" during and after their marches.
