Jimmy Kimmel recently hosted Jesus on his late show. Not real Jesus, of course. (Don’t worry, this isn’t the apocalypse. You haven’t been left behind). It’s just pretend white Jesus.
Kimmel’s team took real quotes from presidential candidates and let an actor pretending to be Jesus read them as if he were running for president.
“We want[ed] to get an idea of what [these statements] would actually sound like from the mouth of Jesus,” said Kimmel.
It’s quite disturbing, really:
“You don’t stop bad guys by taking away our guns, you stop bad guys by using our guns.”
“I’ll take the votes of everyone who likes machine guns and bacon.”
“The other thing is, with the terrorists, you have to take out their families.”
It’s all pretty irreverent. But the video ultimately draws attention to just how un-Christlike these statements are. Despite so many of the candidates best efforts to claim the banner of Christianity, much of what they say is a far cry from the spirit of Jesus.
