Joel Osteen may believe in the “power of positive vision,” but prominent Roman Catholic Stephen Colbert had something else to offer him Feb. 2 during Osteen’s appearance on The Late Show.
“Have you tried the power of crippling guilt?”
Osteen laughed, but Colbert assured him, tongue firmly in cheek: “It works for me, man. It works for me.”
Joel Osteen pastors Houston’s Lakewood Church, which is the largest church in the U.S. He has faced criticism for preaching the “prosperity gospel,” an issue Colbert brought up in the interview.
But Colbert said that he liked Osteen’s message of inclusion, so he couldn’t resist a comparison with his own favorite pastor: Pope Francis.
