Haitian refugees

Two-hundred-seventy Haitian refugees—including children—have been held for more than six months in a maximum-security prison in Miami pursuant to a policy secretly introduced by the Immigration and Naturalization Service in December 2001. "These are not terrorists," said Catholic Sister Jeanne O' Laughlin, one of many human rights activists involved in the case. "These are people who need to be free. They are behind bars that bar them from human consolation and the right to ask for freedom."
