I AM A SUPPLY TEACHER and have been teaching religious studies for two weeks in a Catholic school. In two lessons, I had to show the video of Archbishop Romero's life and death, but the children seemed unmoved by it - quite unaffected. They see "worse" all the time in their nightly diet of trash movies. It shocked me to see how little impact the witness of this holy man made upon their lives. I have spent this evening learning more about Archbishop Romero, determined that his memory should be respected properly. If the children won't learn the message, then I'll carry on learning it myself.
