Sojourners’ recent interview with novelist Mary Doria Russell (“A Hardheaded Faith,” by Rose Marie Berger, November 2008) leaves me feeling deflated. While a review of spiritually slanted science-fiction literature may be enjoyed, the detailing of this writer’s spiritual journey from devout Catholicism to atheism to Judaism and finally agnosticism make it hard for me to pass my issue along. Sojourners is a tool I often use in articulating my views to other believers concerning social justice and politics. This issue delivers a wealth of opportunity for sharing, but I am compelled to issue a caveat regarding “A Hardheaded Faith” lest it give the entire issue a lack of credibility.
