Who's the Boss

JIM WALLIS, YOU ARE a prophet, a Christian activist, and an advocate for justice. And besides, you are my hero. But where were you when you wrote your editorial ("Eyes on the Prize") in the May-June 2001 issue? Maybe you just needed to dream.

"By their fruits, you shall know them" says it all. We see how the president is pulling people together, as he promised, by his agenda (ha!). My experience-and I am even older than you-is that Christian churches are already afraid to cross the government, to speak up, to take a stand for justice-at least out in the diaspora-and just let the government give them some bucks, we shall witness "the silence of the lambs" big time! I want the church/synagogue/mosque to pay taxes, be free, and then advocate for the hungry children. I suspect John DiIulio is a nice gentleman, and probably sincere, but we know his boss too well.
