Enemy Love

RON SIDER'S ARTICLE on evangelism and social action ("Has Evangelism Become Politically Incorrect?" July 1993) was especially enlightening as we are trying to combine calling for repentance with taking responsibility for social sin. This region is definitely in the Bible belt, judging from letters to the editor, but because militarism is so ingrained, love of enemies is not given much emphasis.

One letter bluntly stated we must have been following the spirit of Satan. A lead editorial after our misdemeanor trial said we were arrogant, ignorant, offensive, insulting, and our moral reasoning was infantile. However, some local peace people have come forward and are very supportive and are becoming more active in publicly opposing war.
