Brian McLaren’s article, "Risky Business" (September 2004) is exceptional advice for the pulpit, for the politically active Christian, and for the prophetic voices of the kingdom of God.
I think it surprises many people in the pew and in the Bible Belt that one can be "Christian" and still vote something other than Republican. McLaren’s suggestions are a great way to give people in our church another viewpoint from within the Christian community.
Maybe, through public dialogue (in love), we can all transcend to something better than false dichotomies and ad hominem attacks. Perhaps we might even move toward something representing the Spirit and the gospel.
