Praying Down Power

IT WAS WITH great interest that I read Jim Wallis’ column ("Hearts & Minds") in the May-June 1997 issue. As I read the negative picture he painted in the beginning of "The Hurricane Is Coming," I looked again and again for reference to prayer to God to help handle the needs of the welfare-less people. I only found reference to churches, government, and private donations. Where does he place God in this need? Does not the power of God figure in the solution of the problem—not only for those who help but for those who are in want? The article could have been much more powerful if he had alluded to that greatest help—God of the Universe.
