JOYCE HOLLYDAY in "A Circle of Faith" ("Signs & Wonders," March-April 1997) indirectly raises a fundamental issue regarding worldwide and historical Christian identity. Despite the plain fact that four-fifths of what has come to be known as the Christian Bible is actually Hebrew, a majority of Christians are completely ignorant of Jewish religious customs that Jesus and his disciples faithfully observed.
As his devoted followers, should Christians do no less? Jesus did not invent a new religion but radically reformed his own, creating a Messianic Jewish sect, which is what Christianity is today. That understanding does not detract from it, but rather restores to Christianity a heritage that surpasses antiquity. To be true Christians, we must first be Jews, just as Jesus was.
