Peace, Not War

In “Falsehoods and the Iraq War” (January 2005), Jim Wallis invites Dick Cheney to debate all the religious leaders who say this war of choice does not meet the criteria of a just war. He neglected to invite Cheney to debate virtually every country in the world whose people, along with millions of Americans, called for inspections, not war. This war and occupation has now caused the deaths of approximately 2,200 Americans and 100,000 innocent men, women, and children in Iraq.

Further, it would be enlightening to look into the media’s complicity in manufacturing the consent of the public for this disaster. Who could forget the parade of so-called “experts” on TV pounding the drums for war for months on end, rarely being challenged?

Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” If only more Christians believed Jesus meant what he said in this verse.
