Louise Coggins, a licensed clinical social worker, is a University of North Carolina alumna, earning both her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in social work there.

She is a psychotherapist in private practice in Wilmington and a Board Certified Diplomate in clinical social work. She has practiced psychotherapy for 49 years, seeing individuals, couples, families, and groups. Louise is chair of the board at the UNC School of Social Work; chair of the board of VISIONS, a nonprofit international multi-cultural training organization; chair of the board for the Wright’s Center, an adult day health care center; and chair of Lift Up the Vulnerable, an international organization combating human trafficking and sex slavery. She has been active on issues related to the status of women, domestic violence, and child abuse, and has raised funds for many worth groups and organizations, including The Fuller Center for Housing, the American Cancer Society, and the AIDS Service Agency of Wake County. She was honored with the YMCA Academy of Women Human Services Award in 1999, and the UNC School of Social Work Outstanding Alumna of the Year 2006. She is a lifelong Episcopalian and has been married since 1974 to Steve Coggins, an attorney.
