Laura studied International Relations and Religious Studies at William & Mary. She joined Sojourners as a fellow in 2024. As operations coordinator, Laura blends her love of strategic thinking, relationship building, and heartfelt service to help make the work of justice smooth and seamless.
Laura has been an activist and organizer since she was a teenager, including for gun violence prevention, climate action, and Black Lives Matter.
In her free time, Laura loves engaging with diverse spiritual traditions. She founded the first club on her college campus for interfaith dialogue, and she remains passionate about nurturing interfaith networks for wisdom sharing and friendship. She is the founder of Sacred Sound Circle, a social platform devoted to expanding access to spiritual practices of sound, music, and movement.
Laura serves as a youth minister at an Episcopal Church in Springfield, VA, where the children she works with teach her more than she teaches them.

Love Is the Only Sane Response in a Time of Fear

In the weeks leading up to the inauguration, Sojourners’ 41st class of fellows gathered to study bell hooks’ prophetic book All About Love . In her writing, hooks not only exposes the structures underpinning systems of oppression but illuminates paths toward dismantling them. Her primary tactic is one we don’t hear much about these days: love.
Published in 1999, All About Love could just as easily have been written amid today’s political upheaval. Hooks calls out fear as a defining issue of our time: “As a culture we are obsessed with the notion of safety. Yet we do not question why we live in states of extreme anxiety and dread. Fear is the primary force upholding structures of domination.”
