I dropped by the office at Discovery Church on Orange Avenue in Orlando yesterday to deliver some posters and flyers for the Poverty Sunday premiere of the film Ordinary Radicals. A leader from the "Status" young adult ministry came out to greet me. After introducing herself, she apologized for not having much time, but she explained that they were celebrating Easter in September and "that's just the way we roll around here."
At that moment I knew I was at a church that "gets it" (Isaiah 43:19) - a church that was living and celebrating resurrection every day, embodying the words of our Lord's Prayer: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Shane Claiborne, dare I say a "community organizer," author of Jesus for President, and one of the "ordinary radicals" featured in the film, had been at Discovery Church on July 22. Approximately 2,000 people came to see him that night.
