On Nov. 26, Art Sisneros, a Texas presidential elector and Republican, announced in a blog post his resignation from the Electoral College and the reason behind his decision. “I do not see how Donald Trump is biblically qualified to serve in the office of the Presidency,” Sisneros wrote.
He continued:
“If Trump is not qualified and my role, both morally and historically, as an elected official is to vote my conscience, then I can not and will not vote for Donald Trump for President. I believe voting for Trump would bring dishonor to God.”
Sisneros wrote that he is resigning sooner rather than later, in order to allow for him to be replaced by Dec. 19, the day the Electoral College will come together to vote for the presidency. In August 2016, Sisneros told Politico that he was considering not voting for Trump on Dec. 19 as a member of the Electoral College.
“I will sleep well at night knowing I neither gave in to their demands nor caved to my convictions,” wrote Sisneros in his Nov. 26 blog post.
“I will also mourn the loss of our republic,” he concluded.
