Southern Baptist Pastor, Dwight McKissic of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, wrote in his blog on Christmas Eve about the “lynch mob” that is forming to remove Russell Moore as reported by Baptist News Global. He writes about the danger of removing critical voices will alienate and hurt race relations within the Convention:
“Make no mistake about it. The union between the SBC and the Republican Convention is an unhealthy and unholy one, particularly with Trump as President. But that would be equally as true with anyone else as President and equally as true if such a union existed with the SBC and The Democratic Party. It is detrimental to our witness, evangelism, discipleship, church planting, race relations and the identity of our seminaries. This is a malignancy that must be excised from our Convention.”
Moore was an early critic of the Republican nominee calling him a "lost soul" and Trump responded to the criticism on Twitter:
.@drmoore Russell Moore is truly a terrible representative of Evangelicals and all of the good they stand for. A nasty guy with no heart!

Writers such as Jonathan Merrit also warn that silencing voices like Russell Moore within the Convention would be a mistake. Amid the rumors of Moore's ousting, #IStandWithMoore trended as people voiced support for the leader of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for the SBC.
Because it shouldn't be controversial in the SBC to denounce racist, misogynistic & crude speech & stand for the gospel #IStandWithMoore

#IStandWithMoore @drmoore because the #SBC needs prophetic voices, not partisan puppets. Pastor, don't sell your pulpit for political power.

#IStandWithMoore because he unflinchingly lets the gospel shape his politics rather than his politics shaping his gospel. @drmoore
