Protests at Texas A&M as White Nationalist Gives Speech on Campus

On Dec. 6, protests ensued at Texas A&M University during an on-campus speech from Richard Spencer, a white nationalist and the self-proclaimed head of the so-called "alt-right" movement, reports the Houston Chronicle. Protesters were met with — and pushed by — law enforcement officials in riot gear and riding on horseback.

Throughout his speech, Spencer’s racist rhetoric was interrupted by challenging remarks from people in the audience who disagreed with him. Often during his speech Spencer received applause from supporters. “This country belongs to white people,” said Spencer.

He continued:

“Trump was the first step toward white identity politics in the United States. He is not going to be the last. The alt-right is a new beginning.”

Throughout his speech, and the following Q&A session, Spencer insulted many of the people who interrupted him or asked him a question, ridiculing many of them for their physical appearance. Spencer seemed pleased with the crowd’s response to his words.
