Jim Cramer's Wallis' Mad Money

My stock pick for the day? Hormel, the makers of Spam. Since May, Spam has been reporting record sales. It is one of the first moves for many families when they need to cut back in their food budgets. So BUY, BUY, BUY!

(Editors Note: PLEASE don't take stock advice from Jim Wallis! In that case, you probably shouldn't from Jim Cramer either.)

It's up to you whether you will be switching to Spam or buying their stock, but it is true that all of us are making some tough decisions and working on big changes. We got some good advice last week here on God's Politics. One commenter, Al Krass, recommended that it is time for us to downshift, from drive to first or second gear. The flurry of information that bombards us coupled with the fear that grows every day threatens to overwhelm the lessons and opportunities that are afforded in the midst of crisis. So, let's all slow down and simplify.

Simplicity has become a common theme in comments and emails to Sojourners over the past several weeks. KGwin posted:

I wonder what Matthew 6:25-34 has to do with our current situation?

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

How has the changing economic situation helped you to realize ways in which you can simplify your life? Can we live out Matthew 6? Are there any resources online that you have found helpful?
