I confess, it feels good to win. It is easy to slip into the trap of feeling as if we have vanquished the oppressor and slain the enemy. But then we come to the stark realization that we are not certain of the identity or even the characteristics of the opposition. Is it possible to personify the enemy by placing all of our angst at the feet of one person, perhaps Mayor Buddy Dyer or City Commissioner Patty Sheehan? Can we ascribe all of the deleteriousness to the City of Orlando? I think not.
So then, who or what can we strike out against? What are we to do? To what should we cling? We must strike out against the culture of fear that has pervaded our culture and seeks to divide and conqueror us with the devastating forces of the 'isms'
