WASHINGTON, DC - People of faith all across the country will join a diverse group of ecumenical Christian leaders for a non-partisan prayer ecumenical Christian service hosted by and including our many diverse faith communities and traditions—live streamed across the country linked to #PeaceWithJustice. This vigil will show that Christians are united in prayer for all of God’s children made in God’s own image, that we will love our neighbors as ourselves, and especially those who are different than us as Jesus commands, and that defending democracy for all Americans—no exceptions—is a religious obligation and a faith vocation.
The vigil takes place on Tuesday, January 19th from 7-8pm ET connected with the #PeaceWithJustice efforts to mobilize people of faith the week of the Inauguration to take action against hatred, racism, and Christian nationalism and instead work together to realize Dr. King’s bold vision of the beloved community.
The vigil will include a diverse group of prominent Christian leaders including (full list at bottom of email):
Rev. Jim Wallis, Founder and Ambassador, Sojourners
Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, President, Sojourners
Dr. Barbara Williams Skinner, Co-convener, National African America Clergy Network

Commissioner Kenneth G. Hodder, National Commander, The Salvation Army in the United States of America
Rev. Gabe Salguero, President, NaLEC
In addition to the virtual vigil on Tuesday, the group will be leading a Twitter Thunderclap on Wednesday starting at 9am ET. This Twitter thunderclap will help to change and shape the narrative leading up the Inauguration ceremony with calls for peace with justice in these difficult and turbulent times—even with the threat of violence looming over this most traditional ceremony.
