WASHINGTON, DC— Sojourners is partnering with Sacred Writes, a Henry R. Luce-grant funded initiative at Northeastern University, to offer three funded writing fellowships for the award-winning publication.
The goal of this partnership is to develop, support, and amplify emerging, diverse voices writing about religion and social justice for the public.
"We're thrilled to partner with Sacred Writes to lift up the work of scholars writing about religion and justice," said Sojourners Executive Editor Sandi Villarreal. "This work is crucial for the advancement of religious literacy in the public sphere, and Sojourners editors look forward to mentoring these fellows and helping refine their writing projects."
“Writing for the public is not a skill that the academy has historically prioritized or rewarded. So, I’m grateful for the way Sacred Writes is stepping in here,” said Associate Editor Daniel José Camacho, who will coordinate the fellowships and the mentoring that scholars will receive at Sojourners. “Sojourners provides a strong platform for getting ideas out there. This partnership is a win-win.”
Sacred Writes will provide a $1,500 stipend for each scholar partnered with Sojourners. Sojourners is particularly interested in scholars whose work interacts with the Christian tradition, and who have expertise in areas such as, but not limited to: biblical studies, race, gender, disability, and climate justice. The deadline for applications is 1 June 2020.
