WE ALL SHOULD be grateful for the August 1994 issue ("Too Many People?") ad-dressing the problems of overpopulation, overconsumption, and overuse of the planet. It should be required reading, and a very timely preparation for the U.N. International Con-ference on Popu-lation and Develop-ment (regional and sustainable) in Cairo this September. We need not agree. We do need the vision of each other.
Even if our population were one billion, our consumption reflected our need rather than our greed, and our environment were sustainable, there would still be suffering, but magnitudes less than what we know there will be on our present course. Let us admit to our blindness, note the vision of others, and plot our course by design rather than default.
