An ad hoc group of Sojourners staffers in their 20s spent many long afternoon meetings brainstorming, arguing, shuffling through essays, and wrangling toward consensus to produce our cover feature on twentysomethings and faith. They also broke Sojourners' record for the longest by-line on an editorial (see "Gen X and the Future of the Church"). The result of all their work is an exciting and eclectic mix of reflections on belief, cynicism, and media myths. A member of the twentysomething group, news assistant intern Jill Carroll Lafferty, did take at least one day away from the cover article. She took photographs on the Oliver North campaign trail for associate editor Jim Rice's feature on the Religious Right. While positioning herself for a photograph she was suddenly confronted by Ollie himself, hand outstretlched in greeting. Since there was not time to explain to him that she's registered to vote in Iowa, not Virginia, she could only politely shake his hand. You never know who you might meet when you start hanging around Sojourners....
