Poverty's Not Just Black and White

I LOVE YOUR magazine and have read it "religiously" for years. In the September-October issue ("Our Unresolved Dilemma"), Sen. Bill Bradley writes that there are about 36,000,000 people in poverty in the United States, of which 10,000,000 are black and 26,000,000 are white. This implies that there are no Native Americans living in poverty (even though, As Winona LaDuke points out, five of the 10 poorest counties in the United States are on Indian reservations). It also implies there are no Hispanic or Asian Americans living in poverty. Bradley knows better, as do the editors of Sojourners. Please don't over-simplify statistics in a manner that erases people from existence.
