AS AN ATTORNEY, I was very interested in the article about Murder Victims Families for Reconciliation ("Groundswell," by Brigitte Kerpsack, August 1993). In our system, victims are usually pushed by district attorneys and "victim advocates" to pursue maximum penalties, including the death penalty, for the good of "their own recovery process." Tough sentencing statutes and pursuit of the death penalty are generally promoted by victim's rights groups. I hope and pray that MVFR can continue in the pursuit of its goals to offset this trend.
