Today I received the November-December 1997 issue of Sojourners with the cover photo of Gordon and Mary Cosby, the interview that focused on those two exceptionally gifted and called persons ("Mission: Possible"), and a little of the grand story of the life and outreach of the Church of the Saviour.
I met the Cosbys through Mary’s brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ellen Campbell. Charles was a colleague of mine in correctional work; he as caseworker and warden; me, as chaplain. When I retired from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in 1977, I became totally involved in the life and work of the Church of the Saviour. Until I moved to Oregon in 1983, they were church for me. Gordon and his sermons (of which I took copious notes), truly altered my vision of "church." I live it out wherever I go, and oft talk about it when I preach (now in retirement).
