Thank you for including an article about Christians who are gay in the September-October 2006 issue (“Mutual Grace,” by Amy McDougall and Jake Nyberg). I am 34, gay, and an odd amalgamation of Baptist, Catholic, and Presbyterian. I have known I was a Christian, and known I was gay, for as long as I can remember.
I’m sure you’ll receive heated letters from people upset that you would even dare give space to the idea that one can be gay and a Christian at the same time. But thank you for putting your neck out and giving a voice to a portion of the Christian community that has suffered far too long. Hopefully the readers of Sojourners will choose love, mercy, and humility as they respond to the article.
