No Fly Zone

Twenty-seven military pilots, former pilots, and air crew sent a petition to the commander of the Israeli Air Force in September saying they will not participate in attack missions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. "We, Air Force pilots who were raised on the values of Zionism, sacrifice, and contributing to the state of Israel," said their letter, "have always served on the front lines," and "are opposed to carrying out attack orders that are illegal and immoral of the type the state of Israel has been conducting in the territories." The group is led by Brig. Gen. Yiftah Spector, a highly decorated pilot who took part in the 1981 bombing of the Osirak nuclear reactor in Iraq. Several hundred Israelis have refused to serve in the West Bank and Gaza.
