A Dear Friend Gone

We just adopted two little girls, and I anxiously pored through the TV guide for the time(s) Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood would be on. I looked forward to joining them in watching Fred peacefully lead them through storylines and field trips that were fascinating to me as well as to our first four (now grown) children. I grieved when I saw that Mister Rogers was not listed at all!

To receive the December issue of Sojourners the very next day and read Danny Duncan Collum’s shared grief in the loss of Mister Rogers was amazing (“Looking for Truth, Beauty, and Love,” Eyes & Ears)! Thank you for putting into words the place that this half-hour show had in our lives and the fact that it has not been replaced with anything close to it in content and approach. My question is, “What can we do now?”
