As the new Development Assistant here at Sojourners, I’ve already been deeply moved by the generosity of those who support our work financially. In just the last few months I’ve witnessed an incredible outpouring of support around issues at the heart of our mission.

In the midst of the season’s partisan squabble, our donors have taken a clear stand for truth.

Because of you, the Development Team is excited to breathe new life into our Gratitude blog, dedicated to those who support the work we do.

Gratitude is a blog for our oldest partners and newest friends. We want to show you where your investment is going, and what it’s doing in the name of peace and justice. This is just one of the ways we say “thank you” for supporting the work we do.

We believe part of faithful stewardship means showing you what we are accomplishing with your partnership. Check this blog often to see the tangible results of your giving.

First, we are proud to show you the Love Your Muslim Neighbors ads you helped install in the D.C. Metro system (pictured above).

In response to the offensive, anti-Muslim ads sponsored by Pamela Geller of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, Sojourners constituents raised enough money to purchase 10 counter-ads in the NYC subway system and 2 here in D.C. Metro stations. Over 1,300 local donors pitched in more than $10,000 in 48 hours to ensure our ads hung in stark and peaceful contrast to Geller’s anti-Muslim “savage” ads.

Since these ads went up we have received an outpouring of gratitude from the Muslim community.

Everyone – regardless of race, religion, or creed – deserves to feel welcome and safe when riding public transportation in the    United States. This is just one way we are using your investment to build a movement for a more peaceful and just world. For helping us send a message of hope and peace to our Muslim brothers and sisters, we extend our deepest Gratitude.
