This video from "Just Salvos Live" is a great initiative from the Salvation Army in Australia that intros young peeps to some of the issues that surround how climate change affects the poorest of poor around the world. The show includes inspiring and thought-provoking clips that are great for churches and youth groups, the voices of sisters and brothers where climate change is already taking its toll, interviews with leading youth climate justice campaigners in Australia from the AYCC, and an awkward conversation with me about ... sex.
Why is the Salvation Army concerned about climate change?
Because they love Jesus.
Because they seek to meet our Lord in "the least of these."
Because they believe the Gospel is good news to our warming world.
Because they have done their homework and are prayerfully responding to the issues that most affect the poorest of poor.
So, as we say in Australia, "Thank God for the Salvos!"
In responding to how climate change will affect the poorest of poor they not only are faithful to the amazing tradition established by Catherine and William Booth, they bring glory to our Lord.
Jarrod McKenna is seeking to live God's love in a world where business as usual is costing us the earth (at the expense of the poor). He is a co-founder of the Peace Tree Community serving with the marginalised in one of the poorest of areas in his city, heads up Together for Humanity in Western Australia (an inter-faith youth initiative working for the common good), and is the founder and creative director of Empowering Peacemakers (EPYC), for which he has received an Australian peace award in his work in empowering a generation of "eco-evangelists" and "peace prophets."
