Like a Drop of Water

Stunned as everyone, I pray and intercede and feel deeply the fear of violence of so many. After teaching RCIA and giving a church tour, I return to a prayer that means so much - the one priests pray, now silently, as they pour a drop of water into the chalice of wine. This is the second reflection on that prayer. I had to somehow say, "I am One with all of you!"

Like a Drop of Water

In the sacristy, I show them the chalice and cruets,
“See, one drop of water is poured into the wine.
Can you separate the water from the wine?”

No, it is forever One
I am Catholic, Jewish
Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim!

Our hearts beat as One
their tears are my tears
their fears are mine

I tell them the prayer:
“By the mystery of this water into wine
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who HUMBLED himself to share in our humanity.”

We are One, forever One
our God shared OUR humanity
the humanity of ALL

Can you separate the drop of water from the wine?
No! We are One. We are ALL One!

Catholic, Jewish
Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim
One

Black, White, Brown, Red, Yellow
handicapped, dreamer, LGBT, woman, man, child
from every continent
from every land and language
We are ONE

You can’t separate the water from the wine
You can’t take DIVINITY out of HUMANITY
It is done! Finished! Birthed!
Forever
ONE

I am Catholic, Jewish
Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim
ONE

I am Black, White, Brown, Red, Yellow
handicapped, dreamer, LGBT, woman, man, child
ONE

I…We…are the Body of Christ
“Why are you persecuting Me?”
