• Taliban tunnel breakout outwits Afghan jailers: "Afghan and Nato forces have launched a huge operation to try to recapture 475 prisoners, nearly all of them Taliban insurgents, who staged an extraordinary mass prison breakout using a tunnel."
• No decision yet on Afghanistan troop drawdown: Robert Gates: "The Obama administration, looking to wind down the war in Afghanistan even as insurgent attacks continue, has not yet decided how many troops will start coming home in July, the defense chief said on Tuesday."
• Petraeus and Panetta said to be up for new posts as part of national security shakeup: "President Obama is expected this week to nominate Gen. David H. Petraeus to replace Leon Panetta as CIA director and to name Panetta as secretary of defense, U.S. officials said Wednesday, part of a long-anticipated shakeup of his national security team."
• Are drones a technological tipping point in warfare? "Debates are growing at home and abroad over the increasing use of remotely piloted, armed drones, with a new study by the British Defense Ministry questioning whether advances in their capabilities will lead future decision-makers to 'resort to war as a policy option far sooner than previously.'"
• New Low for Obama on Afghanistan: "A record 49 percent of Americans now disapprove of President Obama's handling of the situation in Afghanistan, up 8 points since January. And those who disapprove "strongly" outnumber strong approvers by nearly a 2-1 margin."
