David Cameron was addressing more than 120 fellow heads of state at a special gathering in New York hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, putting action on climate change back on the top of the political agenda.

It wasn’t only politicians who deemed the subject worthy of attendance. Thirty religious leaders from a variety of faith traditions, including US pastor Jim Wallis, took part in an inter-faith summit and signed a statement declaring the effects of climate change to be of moral importance.
They said: “We recognise that these effects disproportionally affect the lives, livelihoods and rights of poorer, marginalized and therefore the most vulnerable populations, including indigenous peoples. When those who have done the least to cause climate change are the ones hardest hit, it becomes an issue of injustice.
