Christian Leaders Releasing Videos by Presidential Candidates Addressing Poverty

 

 

WHAT:          A teleconference on the release of videos made by U.S. presidential candidates discussing how they will work to end hunger and poverty both in the United States and around the world. Sponsored by the Circle of Protection.

 

                        Videos by Dr. Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, and Bernie Sanders have already been received. Videos by Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Martin O’Malley have been promised by July 21.

 

The videos will go live on July 21, 10:00 a.m. at www.circleofprotection.us.    

 

WHO:            Speakers at the teleconference include Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World; Galen Carey, vice president of government relations for the National Association of Evangelicals; Rev. Sèkinah Hamlin, director of the Ecumenical Poverty Initiative; Sr. Donna Markham OP, PhD, president & CEO of Catholic Charities USA; and Rev. Gabe Salguero, president of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition. Rev. Jim Wallis, CEO and founder of Sojourners, will moderate.

WHY:            As the race for the Republican and Democratic nominations for president starts, more than 100 Christian leaders have asked the candidates to produce videos stating how they, as president, would work to address poverty both in the United States and around the world. The leaders will now be disseminating the videos among the members of the Circle of Protection. The leaders hope these videos will help elevate hunger and poverty as an election issue and stimulate debate among Christians and the public about the most effective solutions.
