The Common Good

Links of Awesomeness: November 7, 2012

So apparently John Lennon was a big fan of Eric Clapton. A big enough fan to write him a letter in 1971, just one year after the Beatles split up, asking to collaborate on music. The letter will be auctioned off during the Profiles in History auction in Los Angeles on Dec. 18 and is expected to go for something around $30,000. A handwritten letter from first president George Washington will also be sold. [via Paste]

A terracotta pot that doubles as a grill?! This is madness! [via GOOD]

Sufjan Steven just put out a cover of "The Star Spangled Banner." And his timing couldn't be better. [via Paste]

Bob Dylan posted his first Facebook status! Welcome to the 21st century, Mr. Dylan! That was a bit patronizing. I shouldn't patronize Bob Dylan. Mr. Dylan, you're a great musician, and I apologize. [via Paste]

A record player that plays paper instead of records? And you can color on the music? What? I'm not sure how it works, but it's cool. [via Laughing Squid]

Sojourners Comment Community Covenant

I will express myself with civility, courtesy, and respect for every member of the Sojourners online community, especially toward those with whom I disagree, even if I feel disrespected by them. (Romans 12:17-21)

I will express my disagreements with other community members' ideas without insulting, mocking, or slandering them personally. (Matthew 5:22)

I will not exaggerate others' beliefs nor make unfounded prejudicial assumptions based on labels, categories, or stereotypes. I will always extend the benefit of the doubt. (Ephesians 4:29)

I will hold others accountable by clicking "report" on comments that violate these principles, based not on what ideas are expressed but on how they're expressed. (2 Thessalonians 3:13-15)

I understand that comments reported as abusive are reviewed by Sojourners staff and are subject to removal. Repeat offenders will be blocked from making further comments. (Proverbs 18:7)
