The Rev. Pat Robertson. Bless his heart.
In an appearance on his 700 Club program Tuesday, while Iowans were heading to their caucuses, Robertson, the 1988 Iowa Caucus runner up, told viewers that he had a long conversation with the Almighty recently about the 2012 presidential election and the state of affairs in these United States of America (God bless it) in general.
Apparently, God told Robertson, 81, who the 45th President of the United States will be. But it's a secret.
"I think He showed me about the next president, but I'm not supposed to talk about that so I'll leave you in the dark -- probably just as well -- but I think I know who it's gonna be," Robertson said.
While Robertson didn't show his cards in terms of the election's ultimate outcome, it would appear that, according to their chat, God isn't a fan of President Obama.
Reading from the notes he took during his prayerful exchange with the Lord, Robertson said, quoting God (reportedly):
"Your country will be torn apart by internal stress. A house divided cannot stand. Your president holds a radical view of the direction of your country which is at odds with the majority. Expect chaos and paralysis. Your president holds a view which is at the odds with the majority — it's a radical view of the future of this country, and so that's why we're having this division. This is a spiritual battle which can only be won by overwhelming prayer. The future of the world is at stake because if America falls, there's no longer a strong champion of freedom and a champion of the oppressed of the world. There must be an urgent call to prayer."
The Lord elaborated, Robertson said, "A time of maxiumum stress and peril greater than any time since the CBN ministry began. This country will begin dissintergrating." Robertson founded the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in 1960.
Robertson ran through a laundry list of potential cataclysms that could be the "great peril" God mentioned, asking if each would spark the nation's downfall. "Pick one," he asked.
An electromagnetic pulse blast? No, that isn't it.
A cosmic or solar radiation blast? No.
The Mayan galaxy alignment? No. (Very funny, though. Nice try.)
An Iranian or North Korean nuclear threat? Nope.
An earth quake or a volcano? Nuh-uh.
A massive power failure? Wrong again.
So what is it? It's the economy, stupid.
"It's an economic collapse," Robertson said. "And God said, and I quote, 'This is not my judgment; they are bringing it upon themselves.'"
Well, at least it isn't the fault of the gays, the feminists, Hollywood, liberals, the Democratic party, or the left-handed this time.
Phew.
But the 1 percent might want to watch their backs.
