'Breaking Bread and Barriers': Storytelling Connects Personal Immigration Experiences with Scripture

Here's a glimpse into what's happening around the country on immigration reform:

I've been working with a group of pastors in Decorah, Iowa, to host a "Breaking Bread and Barriers" event in their community. The concept is a potluck dinner with storytelling and sharing about immigration in their community, past and present. An immigrant who was an employee of the plant in Postville, Iowa, a college student, an Asian immigrant business owner, a Norwegian American, and Rev. David Vasquez each shared stories and how their experiences connected with an immigrant story in scripture. They got some media attention around the event as well, and had a state representative and a rep. from Sen. Tom Harkin's staff attend the event. It was quite a success!
