Sundays for Darfur

Hundreds gathered at sites around Washington, D.C., in June and July to pray for and demand justice in Darfur, Sudan. The series of public worship services on five consecutive Sundays was organized by Brian McLaren of Cedar Ridge Community Church in Maryland, in conjunction with Sojourners, Africa Action, the Genocide Intervention Fund, and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. "We fight about whether the Ten Commandments should be displayed in front of buildings, but we fail to live out the Ten Commandments in relation to our suffering neighbors," said McLaren. "We are tired of being divided over trivialities; we believe it is time to come together over an emergency." Up to 400,000 people have been killed since the Darfur genocide began in 2003.
