Free Music Download and Interview with DM Stith

091001-dm-stithIn an age of quick and easy fame, where reality stars are more popular than actual actors, it's always refreshing to find an artist quietly making genuinely beautiful music with little to no regard for fame. Too bad for Asthmatic Kitty artist David Stith, the fame may come to him whether he likes it or not-but for all the right reasons: his music is mind-blowingly complex, with lyrics that betray a thoughtful writer struggling with deep questions about art, faith, and relationships. This year, Stith released his first album, Heavy Ghost, to critical acclaim, and in October, he will open for Sufjan Stevens on a Trans-American tour.

I was lucky enough to catch DM Stith at his home in Indiana for a quick conversation about his music and faith. Originally from Buffalo, New York, Stith grew up in a musical household where church attendance was just as important as practicing your instruments. Like many raised in a Christian household, Stith struggles to reconcile the traditions of his faith background with what he is discovering today about the personhood of God and the role of the church. Listen in on our conversation and download DM Stith's song, Morning Glory Cloud, graciously offered by the good folks at Asthmatic Kitty.
