Those who want to discuss women's health issues and contraception have come the the wrong place. That is a political issue.
This dispute is only about religious freedom and the First Amendment to the Constitution that government is ignoring in a rule making that happens to be about health care. The Constitution protects all of our God-given rights from being limited or taken by the government, but the precedent is being set by this rule making is that the President and the Congress get to decide what is a constitutional right and what is not.
Neither the Congress nor the President have the authority under our Constitution to make that decision, since that authority is given only to our Supreme Court. The fact that the Congress and the President did not seek a Supreme Court ruling before passing their controversial bill and making the resultant rule making tells us that our rights are under attack by the government.
If this attack is allowed to stand, it sets a precedent and all of our God-given rights are at risk. The rule must not be allowed to stand, no matter how many political deals are made to silence the opposition!
I will have you in prayer during your sabbatical, praying that the Lord recharges your batteries and gives you a new perspective for the coming year. I will also be praying that you become less a follower of any political party and more of a follower of the gospels and the God-given vision of America given to our founders. I have renounced all political party affiliations, believing that they are destructive, and resolved to put God and country first in the coming year. The founders of our country were not all Christians, but all shared a belief in a higher power and in liberty, the freedom to be all that God created us to be. Today's political parties believe only in the power of government despite the many failures of this pagan philosophy, and deny the founders God-given vision of individual liberty. We the people, on the other hand, have lost our belief in personal responsibility and look to ourselves and a secular government, instead of a belief in God, to solve our problems. May the events of 2012 make this nation return to God.
Jim trivializes the central thrust of the assault on Christmas by focusing on merchants who use the "Happy Holidays" slogan instead including the attacks of the secular left on traditional Christian displays of the nativity scene in his column. Groups like the ACLU are indeed conducting a "war on Christmas" using the discredited "separation of church and state" argument. There are many groups, like the Catholic League, devoting their energy to debunking the "separation of church and state" and defending Christian displays. Fox News is just one player in the defense of Christmas, Hanukkah, and other religious events that are celebrated by those who believe in them. If we don't speak out against the growing intolerance in our country, freedom of religion will become a victim of those attacks.
Citizens across the United States have also been demanding President Obama grant the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, because they are unemployed and need wages to support their families and a steady supply of energy for job growth in the U.S. Opponents of the pipeline must speak to the need for jobs if they are going to make a credible case against the pipeline.
Official rhetoric has helped fuel an escalation of tension between the United States and Iran. Do recent negotiations mark a change in direction, or just a temporary detour from the highway to military attack?
